EDISON HOME & LABORATORY:    Famous inventor Thomas a Edison's winter  home, beautifully poised along the Caloosahatchee River, is one of the greatest historic treasures within Lee County.  The vernacular sturcure, completed in 1886 also includes a laboratory, botanical gardens and museum.  Information:  239-334-3614

FORD WINTER HOME:  The winter home of automobile industrialist Henry Ford was purchased in 1916 and recently restored to look the way it did when Ford and his wife, Clara, lived there.  Information:  239-334-3614

MOUND KEY:  The Calusa Indians were the first to choose this niche of paradise as their home as early as 5000 B.C.  Traces of the now-extinct tribe remain in the shell mounds and other artifacts found on Mound Key.   Accessible only by boat, the key is a favorite of history buffs.

LOVER'S KEY STATE RECREATION AREA:  Located between Fort Myers Beach  and  Bonita Beach.  Accessible by foot or boat.  National survey of Beaches ranked  Lover's Key 6th in the Gulf Coast.  Great shelling, fishing, picnic areas and beaches.  Tram across estuaries habited by ospreys and spoonbills. LYNN HALL MEMORIAL PARK:  Located next to the fishing pier on Fort Myers Beach.  This park offers modern bathhouses, picnic  area, playground and metered parking. Info:  239-463-1116

MANTANZAS PASS WILDERNESS PRESERVE:  On Estero Island.  Provides an expanse of unspoiled live oak hammocks and mangrove forest to explore via a meandering elevated boardwalk or quiet footpaths.

CORKSCREW SWAMP SANCTUARY:   A 2.25-mile raised boardwalk takes visitors through several distinct habitats, including the largest remaining stand of ancient bald cypress in North America.  This natural system if manages by the National Audubon Society to maintain the native plants and animals found here.  Info:   239-348-9151.

J.N. 'DING' DARLING WILDLIFE  REFUGE:  On Sanibel Island, the entrance to this 5,030 acres wilderness preserve.  Delightful nature trails, a five-mile scenic drive and winding canoe trails show Florida wildlife in it's natural habitat.  Entrance fee.  Preserve closed on Friday.  Information:  239-472-1100

MANATEE PARK:  Lee County's winter home (Nov-Mar) for the West Indian Manatee.  This 16 acre site is open year-round, includes viewing are and lagoon, restroom, picnic shelter, canoe launch to the Orange River, fishing cove with  deck, and "Eco-torium" with Manatee information and gift shop.  Manatee viewing update line:  239-694-3537.  Park facility and program info:  239-432-2004.

SIX MILE CYPRESS SLOUGH PRESERVE:  This 2,200 acres wetland ecosystem is home t a diversity of plants and animals, a number of which are endangered.  Free guided walks.  Info:  239-432-2004

CARLOS PASS:  Carlos Pass separates Lover's Key from Estero Island... the dolphins come daily to play and feed in the waters separating these two islands.  Fish from the bridge that connects the islands or cast your line right from the shore.

GOLF:  Golfers can play 1,549 holes on 95 courses in the area.  There is an executive par 3 course located 1.5 miles from the condo. 

FORT MYERS SKATIUM:  72,000 square foot complex with two rinks for hockey and recreational skating.
