and windsurfing are some pretty exciting activities to take part in. Using
only the power of Mother Nature, launch 30-foot jumps, pull your favorite
wakeboard moves or just ride some waves to the sunset. This is one of the
world's top destinations for these sports with consistent winds and deep,
warm waters. |
| Fishing
in the bay, or deep sea you're sure to catch something. There are plenty of
guide services here that specialize in sport fishing, fly fishing and sight
fishing. Perfect for the individual or the whole family.

Padre Island is the #1 surfing destination in the Gulf of Mexico. The water
is warm and clear and offers some of the most gentle waves you'll find.

| Conditions
are ideal almost year round for golfing on South Padre Island. There's a 18
hole championship course about 15 minutes away and two other courses located
within 45 minutes

There's tennis, horseback riding on the beach, plenty of swimming and
much more. Go snorkeling, take a land or sea tour, or go surfing. The
opportunities are abundant here on South Padre Island.

Providing an interactive look at sea creatures in order to teach people about
Dolphins in the wild and other sea animals. This Center offers a hands on

Laguna Madre Nature
Trail
Next to the Convention Centre and Whaling Wall No. 53, the Laguna Madre Nature
Trail is a 1,500-foot boardwalk that extends across four acres of wetlands.
Containing informative signs about dune systems and bird species that frequent
the area, the nature trail provides visitors with the opportunity to observe
many species of birds and other wildlife in their natural habitat. The idea of
the Laguna Madre Nature Trail was conceived by naturalist Ed Hawkins. It is
dedicated to his memory. Both the Whaling Wall and nature trail are always open
to the public free of charge and can be accessed through the circle driveway
leading up to the Convention Centre. The South Padre Island Convention Centre is
located at 7355 Padre Blvd. at the north end of town.
Sea Turtle, Inc.
Sea Turtle, Inc., a non-profit organization founded in 1978, was the home of Ila
Loetscher, known by many as the "Turtle Lady." Ms. Loetscher dedicated
her life to saving and rehabilitating sea turtles, including the endangered
Kemp's ridley sea turtle. Educational shows featuring the turtles are given on
Tuesdays and Saturdays at 10 a.m. A donation of $2 is requested at the door. Sea
Turtle, Inc. is located at 6617 Padre Boulevard.
